The present invention relates to an apparatus suitable for collectingsamples of biological fluid, such as blood, from fluid circuitassemblies or other apparatus employed in the collection, separation,storage or processing of biological fluids. In accordance with theinvention, a blood collection tube holder assembly is disclosed thatincludes a needle assembly including a piercing end for piercing theend of a sample collection tube, a non-piercing end and a generallycylindrical housing including a distal end engageable with the needleassembly, a proximal end adapted to receive a blood collection tube,and a sidewall extending between the proximal and distal ends. Toprotect the interior of the housing and help avoid accidental contactwith the piercing member, a cover is movably associated with theproximal end of the cylindrical body and movable between a closedposition covering the proximal end and an open position opening theproximal end.
