Systems and methods for stimulating a neuronal cell in the head of a patient in need of such stimulation are disclosed. The method includes positioning a light source proximal to the neuronal cell to be stimulated and pulsing the light from the light source to stimulate the neuronal cell for a predetermined period of time to achieve the desired effect.
