PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform the cloning of a gene associated with the synthesis of a fatty acid having trans-11-, cis-13-conjugated double bonds from a fatty acid having a double bond at itsΔ12th position. SOLUTION: This gene having any of the following base sequences is provided. (A) a base sequence encoding a specific amino acid sequence; (B) a specific base sequence different from the (A). (C) In each of the base sequences, an amino acid sequence in which one to a plurality of amino acids are lost, added or substituted, and encoding the amino acid sequence having a capability of synthesizing the fatty acid having the trans-11-, cis-13-conjugated double bonds from the fatty acid having the double bond at itsΔ12th position; or (D) a base sequence capable of hybridizing with the specific base sequence different from the (A) or its complemental sequence under a stringent condition and encoding the protein having the capability of synthesizing the fatty acid having the trans-11-, cis-13-conjugated double bonds from the fatty acid having the double bond at itsΔ12th position.
