The present invention provides a production method for neural cells or nerve tissue, the method including steps (1)-(3): (1) a first step for culturing pluripotent stem cells in the absence of feeder cells in a culture medium that includes 1) a TGF-[beta] family signal transduction pathway inhibitor and/or a sonic hedgehog signal transduction pathway activator and 2) a non-differentiation maintenance factor; (2) a second step for culturing the cells obtained in the first step in suspension so as to form an aggregate of cells; and (3) a third step for culturing the aggregate of cells obtained in the second step in suspension in the presence or absence of a differentiation inducing factor so as to obtain an aggregate that includes nerve cells or nerve tissue.本發明為提供一種含有下述步驟(1)~(3)之神經系細胞或神經組織的製造方法:(1)將多能性幹細胞在飼養細胞非存在下,以含有1)TGFβ家族信號傳達途徑阻礙物質及/或音蝟因子信號傳達途徑作用物質、以及2)未分化維持因子之培養基中進行培養的第一步驟、(2)將以第一步驟所得之細胞進行浮游培養,形成細胞之凝集體的第二步驟、及(3)將以第二步驟所得之凝集體在誘導分化因子的存在下或者非存在下進行浮游培養,得到含有神經系細胞或者神經組織之凝集體的第三步驟。
