An injection guide device for administering a dental anaesthetic injection to a subject has a body portion comprising a light source with an emitter and a syringe retaining region. The syringe retaining region is configured to align a syringe needle with the emitter such that light from the emitter is substantially collinear with the needle. The body portion is configured to receive a portion of the subjects cheek between the syringe needle and the emitter such that operation of the light source produces a luminous indicator on the subjects skin which is alignable with an extra-oral landmark to guide insertion of the needle. In another embodiment the injection guide device comprises a physical locating member. The device is useful for performing the Gow- Gates mandibular block.
