Surgical drain system for use during surgical operation and after surgery has been provided. The collection container is placed in fluid communication with the users body through the collection port. The pump creates a negative pressure to urge the fluid into the collection vessel. Fluid exits the collection container through the drain port. The drainage mechanism allows air to enter the collection vessel through the air intake while at the same time allowing the collected fluid to exit the vessel.
