PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hair modifier and a hair modifying method which can straighten curly hair without giving damage to the hair and the scalp and is suited for increasing the volume of the hair.SOLUTION: The application of a nearly neutral ergothioneine aqueous solution to the hair allows the ergothioneine which takes a thiol structure in an aqueous solution to break into a disulfide bond in the hair to cause replacement reaction and modifies the three-dimensional structure of the hair, and accordingly a curly hair straightening effect can be obtained without affecting peptide bonds. Further, a new disulfide bond is formed in the cysteine residue which does not participate in the disulfide bonds present in the hair. The space in the hair is increased by bonding two zwitterion sites of ergothioneine of the terminal of such a newly formed disulfide in the hair or by bonding the zwitterion site to ergothioneine or an amino acid, and accordingly an increase in the volume of the hair can be achieved.COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT【課題】髪の毛や頭皮へダメージを与えることなく、縮毛矯正を行うことができ、髪の毛の体積増加にも適した頭髪改質剤及び頭髪改質方法を提供する。【解決手段】ほぼ中性のエルゴチオネインの水溶液を髪の毛に塗布することで、水溶液中でチオール構造をとるエルゴチオネインが、髪の毛中のジスルフィド結合間に割り込んで置換反応を起こし髪の毛の三次元構造を改変させるため、ペプチド結合への影響を与えずに縮毛矯正効果が得られる。また、髪の毛中に存在しているジスルフィド結合に関与していないシステイン残基との間には、新たなジスルフィド結合を生成する。このような新たに髪の毛中に生成したジスルフィド結合の末端であるエルゴチオネインの双性イオン部同士や、前記双性イオン部とエルゴチオネインあるいはアミノ酸の結合により、髪の毛中の空間が増大するため、髪の毛の体積増加を図ることができる。【選択図】図1
