PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drug, a method and the like, capable of decreasing the number of somatic cells present in milk of livestock (a dairy cow, a sheep, a goat and the like) to improve the quality of milk thereof, of helping produce milk of good quality including a small number of somatic cells even under weather and breeding conditions stressful for livestock, and of preventing and/or treating mastitis.SOLUTION: By orally administering or feeding trehalose to livestock, the number of somatic cells (such as neutrophils, lymphocytes, and macrophages) present in milk thereof is decreased, mastitis is prevented and/or treated, and thereby the quality of milk thereof can be improved.COPYRIGHT: (C)2014,JPO&INPIT【課題】家畜(乳牛、羊、山羊など)の乳中の体細胞数を減少させ、その乳質を改善することが可能な、ストレスが掛かりやすい気象条件や飼養条件下においても体細胞数が少なく品質が良い乳を生産し、乳房炎の予防及び/又は治療が可能な剤及び方法等を提供する。【解決手段】家畜へのトレハロースの経口投与又は給与により、その家畜の乳中の体細胞数(例えば、好中球、リンパ球、マクロファージなど)を減少させ、乳房炎の予防及び/又は治療をし、その乳質を改善することができる。【選択図】なし
