A retractable awning, comprising a screen (3) which may be extended and retracted,wherein there is provided a first motor (20,21) arranged to extend the screen,a second motor (35) arranged to retract the screen, and a control unit (30) arrangedto control the first and second motors, wherein the first and second motors aresynchronised so as to maintain tension in the screen within predetermined values.
