The present invention relates in part to cry34ab / 35ab in combination with cry3ba. The object of the invention relates in part to the surprising discovery that cry34ab / cry35ab and cry3ba are useful for preventing the development of resistance (for each insecticide protein system alone). As one skilled in the art will recognize with the benefit of this description, plants producing these cry insecticidal proteins should be useful in alleviating the concern that a population of maize chrysomelid could develop what would be resistant to each of these insecticide protein systems alone. The object of the invention is supported in part by the discovery that the components of these cry protein systems do not compete with each other for binding of maize chrysomelid digestive tract receptors.
