The invention relates to an insect trap (10) and a method for attractingand/or capturing flying insects and/or insect pests(12). The trap (10) has a suction opening (14) which continues into a suctionchannel (16), in which there is an air flow (18) applyingthe suction opening (14) with a negative pressure or with a suction flow, andleading to an internal space (20) of the insect trap (10).The trap (10) also has a surface which surrounds the suction channel (16) nearthe suction opening (14), encases the suction channel(16) in a further region at a varying radial distance, widens in a directionparallel to the direction of the air flow (18) passing throughthe suction channel (16), and is at least partially permeable to out-flowingair (24), and which forms at least one part of an outer wall(22) of the insect trap (10). In addition, an end or base side (28) isprovided, which is connected to the outer wall (22), is substantiallyimpermeable to in- or out-flowing air, and is positioned opposite the suctionopening (14), and which is at least slightly spaced apartfrom an open end side (30) of the suction channel (16) extending into theinternal space (20) of the trap (10).
