A fixation plate comprises a head 42 and a leg 46 extending from the head 42, at least one of the head 42 and leg 46 comprises at least one aperture 44a-d, 48a-d which does not comprise a screw thread. The inner surface of the aperture 44a-d, 48a-d may be made from a material that deforms to form a screw thread on insertion of a threaded screw. At least one of the head 42 and leg 46 comprises at least one position indicator. The leg 46 has lateral sides, one of which comprises a protrusion 54. The leg 46 may extend along axis L1 and the lateral protrusion 54 may extend along axis L2, these axes may intersect at 45 degrees. The head 42 may extend along axis L3 which may be parallel to L1. The aperture 44a-d, 48a-d may be circular and/or have a beveled edge. The aperture 48a may comprise two overlapping circular sections 62, 63 producing an internal shape of the figure of eight. The head 42 may extend away from the leg 46 in a plane P. The plate may have a non-uniform thickness and may be made from stainless steel or a bioabsorbable polymer.
