The invention discloses means of treating pain through administration of mesenchymal stem cells or derivatives thereof via an intrathecal manner at a concentration and frequency sufficient to reduce pain. In one embodiment of the invention, treatment of discogenic pain is provided by administration of mesenchymal stem cells intrathecally that are derived from the Whartons Jelly. In another embodiment the invention teaches administration of supernatants from mesenchymal stem cells, in one embodiment said supernatants comprising of concentrated microvesicles.
