Waveform information such as physiological information (e.g. ECG, EMG, CTG etc) is displayed on a virtual strip chart 304 having a 2D virtual graph onto which the waveform is plotted. A system for displaying physiological information includes a graph module (122, fig. 1) to provide a two-dimensional virtual graph 314 having a time dimension and a signal dimension. The system also includes a waveform module (121, fig. 1) to obtain physiological signals as a function of time, and plot a waveform 310 based upon the physiological signals onto the virtual graph 314. A user interface (104, fig. 1) displays the waveform and the virtual graph in a chart portion 302 of a viewable area 300. The graph and waveform plot scroll along the time dimension at the recording speed. The virtual strip chart 304 may include more than one waveform and/or a second virtual strip chart may be displayed so that more than one waveform can be displayed. The display may be used for seismic or environmental data.
