It is intended to provide an absorbent article (1) showing excellent liquid transfer properties from a nonwoven fabric sheet (11), which is provided in the front face side of an absorbent (3), toward the absorbent (3). In this absorbent article, the back face side average (Ab), which is determined by projecting the part of the nonwoven fabric sheet (11) ranging from the back face (11b) to a position 220 µm apart therefrom in the thickness direction onto a plane having the above-described thickness direction as the normal direction and averaging the total area of interfiber spaces thus projected by dividing by the total interfiber space count corresponding to the total area, is smaller than the surface side average (As), which is determined by projecting the part of the nonwoven fabric sheet (11) ranging from the surface (11s) to a position 220 µm apart therefrom in the thickness direction onto a plane having the above-described thickness direction as the normal direction and averaging the total area of interfiber spaces thus projected by dividing by the total interfiber space count corresponding to the total area. The surface side average (As) as described above is 902 (µm2/space) or more and the back face side average (Ab) as described above is 392 (µm2/space) or more.
