A reel for angling comprising means for receiving a spool (2) adapted to receive a quantity of line, a winding mechanism (3) connecting a handle (4) and a rotor (5), the rotor (5) adapted to transfer fishing line onto the spool (2) when the winding mechanism (3) is rotated in a winding direction and guide line drawn from the spool (2) when the winding mechanism (3) is rotated in an unwinding direction, the winding mechanism (3) including a unidirectional braking element (30) adapted and arranged to provide damping of rotation of the winding mechanism (3) in the unwinding direction, wherein the braking element (30) includes an adjustment element to provide a plurality of levels of damping in the unwinding direction.
