An apparatus for treating inflammatory bowel diseases is provided. The apparatus includes a body and an elongate spring coil extending distally from the body and configured to be positioned within a patient's colon. The elongate spring coil defines a spiral configuration and is configured to be selectively moved relative to the body. The apparatus also includes at least one electrode disposed on the elongate spring coil and configured to emit energy. The at least one electrode is moved along a spiral path in response to movement of the elongate spring coil relative to the body. A method of use for treating inflammatory bowel diseases is also provided.
