The invention relates to a composition for the cold storage of organs for transplant, comprising a solution for the cold storage of organs and cardiotrophin-1 or a functionally equivalent variant thereof. The invention also relates to methods and kits for the preparation of said composition, to the uses of such compositions for the protection and/or cold storage of organs for transplant (particularly kidney, lung and heart), as well as to cold storage methods and the isolated organs stored under cold conditions using said methods.
