Addition of rosemary extract to various dentifrice compositions results intooth paste, mouth rinses, and other compositions that are suitable fortreating and preventing a variety of oral disease including gingivitis, plaquebuild-up, and the like. Rosemary extract, containing major amounts or ursolicacid and carnosic acid, is added to dentifrice compositions so that the amountdelivered to the oral cavity upon use is effective to provide anantibacterial, antioxidant, and/or anti-inflammatory effect. In variousembodiments, the components of rosemary extract are combined with triclosan orother phenolic antibacterial agents to provide enhanced activity.
