The present invention provides an antiseptic composition comprising a germinant and an antimicrobial agent, wherein the germinant increases a pathogens susceptibility to attack from the antimicrobial agent and wherein the antimicrobial agent does not inhibit the germinant. The present invention also provides an antiseptic wipe, handwash or paint comprising such antiseptic composition and a method of sterilizing a surface using such a composition.
