The cutter unit is mounted over one of the two belt conveyors between which the rollers proper, driven at adjustable spped, are placed. It consists of an actuator arm each side of the conveyor pivoted about a common spindle, and pin jointed to, the lower end of a vertical push rod carrying at its top a crossbar esp. double armed in the end(s) of which up and down adjuster screws run in threaded bushes spring loaded in place. At the bottom of each screw is a bearing for the cutting tool shaft which is transverse to the direction of motion of the conveyor and carries the rotary cutters. Pin and hole locks may be fitted to the actuator arms and an automatic speed interlock may be fitted to ensure that when the cutters are lowered the main rollers cannot run fast.
