PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide useful prepolymers for dental composite resin having small polymerization shrinkage during curing, excellent mechanical strength of a cured product, and sufficient performance in curing depth and X-ray contrast.SOLUTION: Provided is a prepolymer having a viscosity at 25°C when dissolved at 30% by mass in triethylene glycol dimethacrylate of 0.1 Pa s or less, and a refractive index of 1.50 to 1.58. Preferably, the prepolymer has an aromatic moiety, has a hydroxyl value of 200 mgKOH/g or less, and has no urethane bond.
