A method of treating chronic wounds, including:! a) removing from the wound at least a portion of necrotic or other non-viable tissue, and! b) applying to a healthy or treatable tissue in said wound an extracellular polymer substance solvation system that includes an agent sequestrating metal ions, a surfactant and a buffering agent. ! 2. The method according to claim 1, characterized in that these stages of removal and application are combined by applying a solvation system at a sufficient flow rate or pressure to remove at least a portion of non-viable tissue from the specified wound. ! 3. The method according to claim 1, comprising applying the specified solvation system by spraying, lavage, aerosol irrigation, getting wet, sagging or drip method, as well as including removing the solvation system from the wound by washing, rinsing, draining or absorption. ! 4. The method according to claim 1, characterized in that said solvation system has an osmolarity of from about 1000 to about 4000 mosmol. ! 5.
