An airway device (10) for human or animal use, the device includes an airway tube (12) having a first end (14) and a second end (16), and a shoulder portion (26) which extends laterally from the airway tube and contacts the faucial pillars of the patient to prevent over-insertion and rotation of the airway device. The first end (14) of the airway tube (12) may be surrounded by a laryngeal cuff (18) which is shaped to form an anatomical fit over and form a seal with the laryngeal inlet of the patient. The shoulder (26) has a width greater than that of the laryngeal cuff (18). There may also be a raised (38) portion on the airway tube to contact the palatoglossal arch, and a concave portion under the airway tube to fit to the tongue. The laryngeal cuff (18) may have a tip portion which is blade-shaped or angled, or may have a bracket.
