The apparatus (1) has a frame (2) including a holding unit to hold the frame in a position when a flexible animal restraint net is stretched between the apparatus and a fixed structure. A rolling and unrolling device (3) rolls and unrolls the net. A driving unit drives a roller (24) in rotation direction for rolling the net. A carrying structure (23) is connected to the frame by a mechanical connection i.e. pivot connection (29), to rotate about a vertical axis and about a rotation axis i.e. pivot axis (32), corresponding to extension direction in which the net extends from the roller.
