An electrically heated smoking system comprising a shell (101) and a replaceable mouthpiece (201) is provided. The shell is made up of a power supply 103 and an electric circuit 105. The mouthpiece comprises a liquid storage portion 203 and a capillary wick 207 having a first end 207a and a second end 207b. The first end of the wick extends into a liquid storage portion for contact with the liquid 205 inside the liquid storage portion. The mouthpiece also comprises a heating element 209 for heating the second end on the capillary, an air outlet 211, and an aerosolization chamber 213 between the second end of the capillary wick and the air outlet. When the shell and mouthpiece are engaged, the heating component is electrically connected to the power supply through the circuit and the circuit is arranged to provide a current pulse to at least one heating component as the user starts to puff. Furthermore, a flow route for air is defined through the aerosol-forming chamber from at least one air inlet to an air outlet, and the flow route conveys the air flow around the second end of the heating component and the capillary wick. In use, the liquid is transported from the liquid reservoir to the heating component by capillary action in the wick. The liquid at the second end of the capillary wick is evaporated by the heating element. The resulting supersaturated vapors are mixed and conveyed in an air flow from the at least one air inlet to the aerosol forming chamber.
