It is an object of the present invention to provide a medicament which is administered to patients suffering from chronic renal disease at a rapid progression of renal function deterioration and which inhibits or improves the progression of the disease state. The present invention relates to an agent for suppressing or improving progress of chronic kidney disease containing 5-hydroxy-1-methylhydantoin as an active ingredient. This drug has shown a remarkable effect in patients with chronic renal disease whose progression of renal function is rapid.
