The present invention relates to a method of preparing an extract of cistanche tubulosa having an increased content of phenylethanoid glycosides, and to uses of an extract of cistanche tubulosa prepared by the method. Specifically, the method comprises the following steps: (a) cistanche tubulosa is immersed for three minutes in hot water at 85-95°；C and dried； (b) the dried cistanche tubulosa is steamed for a first time, and dried； (c) the cistanche tubulosa dried in step (b) is steamed for a second time while being irradiated with far-infrared rays, and dried； (d) the cistanche tubulosa dried in step (c) is extracted with a C1-C5 alcohol or hot water； and (e) the extract obtained from step (d) is filtered and concentrated. The method of the present invention provides an extract of cistanche tubulosa having a significantly increased content of phenylethanoid glycosides compared with previously disclosed cistanche tubulosa extraction methods.
