The mask assembly comprises a mask seal adapted to be located under the nose. The mask seal extends upward on the outside of the nose. The mask seal has a primary seal under the nose and a secondary seal along the nose. The mask seal comprises a hinge that allows one part of the mask seal to deform relative to another part of the mask seal. In one configuration, the portion of the mask seal located under the nose is configured to deform relative to the lower portion of the mask seal.
