The present invention provides a lactic acid bacterium which is suitable for use in food, drink or medicine, and which can inhibit an increase in serum uric acid level. Various lactic acid bacteria were cultured in the presence of purines, and the consumption amount of the purin body and the production amount of the purin body lysate were measured to select a plurality of lactic acid bacteria having remarkable purine cleavage ability. The lactic acid bacteria determined to have a high purifying ability by the above selection were orally administered to rats raised with a purin-containing feed, and the general condition and serum uric acid level of the rats were measured to examine the influence of the lactic acid bacteria on the serum uric acid value Respectively.
