The present invention related to a surgical clip applying apparatus for laparoscopic and endoscopic surgery procedure is disclosed which has a handle and an extending long endoscopic pipe distally from the handle. A number of surgical clips are disposed in the endoscopic pipe with the end point containing a jaw mechanism which clamps the surgical clip inside the jaws to close the body tissues or blood vessels inside the jaws as well. The handle can advance the surgical clips inside the endoscopic pipe to the jaws, close and then exit the surgical clip inside the jaws. The handle contains a rotating knob to rotate the endoscopic pipe to the specified angle. In particular, the rotating knob is equipped with a clip counter which displays the number of the surgical clips stored in the endoscopic pipe. The chip counter is a tape driving mechanism.
