A forceps includes a housing, a shaft assembly, an end effector assembly, andawaveguide assembly. The housing has one or more transducers that generate amechanicalvibration in response to energy transmitted thereto from an energy source. Theshaft assemblyextends from the housing and includes one or more articulating and clampingmembers and alongitudinal axis defined therethrough. The end effector assembly is disposedat a distal end ofthe shaft assembly and includes a pair of opposing jaw members pivotablebetweenapproximated and unapproximated configurations in response to movement of theone or moreclamping members. The articulating members articulate the jaw members relativeto thelongitudinal axis of the shaft assembly. The waveguide assembly is positionedwithin the shaftassembly and receives the mechanical vibration generated by the transducer.The waveguideassembly is positionable within one or both of the jaw members.
