An end effector for a surgical instrument is provided that has a first jaw, such as a cartridge body, having on a tissue-contacting surface thereof a plurality of staple cavities configured to seat staples therein, and a second jaw, such as an anvil, with a plurality of staple forming cavities formed on a tissue-contacting surface thereof. The first jaw has a generally rectangular nominal perimeter defining a regular perimeter around outer rows of the plurality of staple cavities. At least one of the first and second jaws has extension elements extending beyond the nominal perimeter of that jaw such that each of the extension elements has at least one attachment feature formed thereon. An adjunct material having a shape complementary to a shape of the jaw is configured to releasably mate with the attachment features formed on the jaw, via corresponding adjunct's mating features.L'invention concerne un effecteur terminal destiné à un instrument chirurgical qui comporte une première mâchoire, telle qu'un corps de cartouche, ayant sur sa surface de contact avec un tissu une pluralité de cavités pour agrafes conçues pour y loger des agrafes, et une seconde mâchoire, telle qu'une enclume, ayant une pluralité de cavités de formation d'agrafes formées sur sa surface de contact avec un tissu. La première mâchoire a un périmètre nominal généralement rectangulaire délimitant un périmètre régulier autour des rangées externes de la pluralité de cavités pour agrafes. Au moins l'une des première et seconde mâchoires comporte des éléments d'extension s'étendant au-delà du périmètre nominal de ladite mâchoire de telle sorte que chacun des éléments d'extension comporte au moins un élément de fixation. Un matériau auxiliaire ayant une forme complémentaire d'une forme de la mâchoire est conçu pour s'accoupler amovible avec les éléments de fixation formés sur la mâchoire, au moyen d'éléments d'accouplement d'auxiliaire correspondants.
