A system for resecting corneal tissue for use on a patient in preparation fora cornealtransplant procedure, wherein an operating room is configured for the cornealtransplantprocedure. The system comprises a surgical laser adapted to emit a pulsedlaser beam, afocusing assembly adapted to focus the pulsed laser beam into a cornea, and aninterfacehaving a plurality of alternatively selectable non-contiguous initial incisionpatterns so as todefine a selected resected pattern including a gap placement options with anuncut gapconfiguration within the resection pattern. A controller in communication withthe interfacereceives the resection pattern and uncut gap configuration. The controller isadapted tomove a focal point of the pulsed laser beam within the cornea using thefocusing assembly,direct the focal point of the pulsed laser beam to incise corneal tissueaccording to theresection pattern, and apply the uncut gap configuration to the resectionpattern to skipportions of the resection pattern. The surgical laser is disposed in apreparation roomseparate from the operating room, and the uncut gap configuration serves tostabilize theincised corneal tissue so as to minimize the risk of the corneal tissuebecoming dislodgedduring movement of the patient from the preparation room to the operatingroom.
