A method of diagnosing a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system includes forming a gradient magnetic field in a scanning space where a target object is positioned by generating a plurality of modified gradient pulses based on a reference gradient pulse and applying one of the plurality of modified gradient pulses to one of an x-axis coil, a y-axis coil, and a z-axis coil included in a gradient coil, applying a radio frequency (RF) pulse from an RF coil to the target object in the scanning space where the gradient magnetic field corresponding to each of the plurality of modified gradient pulses is formed, receiving a plurality of RF signals that are generated from the target object and correspond to the plurality of modified gradient pulses, and compensating an output of the gradient coil based on the plurality of received RF signals.기준 경사 펄스에 기초하여 복수의 변형 경사 펄스를 생성하고, 경사 코일에 포함되는 상기 x축 코일, 상기 y축 코일, 및 상기 z축 코일 중 하나에 상기 복수의 변형 경사 펄스를 인가하여 대상체가 수용된 촬영 공간에 경사 자장을 형성하는 단계, RF 코일에서 상기 복수의 변형 경사 펄스 각각에 대응되는 경사 자장이 형성된 상기 촬영 공간 상의 상기 대상체로 RF 펄스를 인가하고, 상기 복수의 변형 경사 펄스 각각에 대응되는 상기 대상체로부터 발생되는 복수의 RF 신호를 수신하는 단계, 및 상기 수신된 복수의 RF 신호에 기초하여 상기 경사 코일의 출력을 보상하는 단계를 포함하는 MRI 시스템 진단 방법을 개시한다.
