PURPOSE: A method for inducing senescence of umbilical cord blood-derived mesenchymal stem cells, and a method and a composition for suppressing cellular senescence are provided to prevent cellular senescence when isolating and culturing mesenchymal stem cells and to increase cell proliferation.CONSTITUTION: A method for suppressing senescence of umbilical cord blood-derived mesenchymal stem cells comprises a step of injecting an antioxidant. The antioxidant is polyethylene glycol-conjugated catalase(PEG-catalase) or N-acetyl cysteine. A composition for suppressing senescence contains polyethylene glycol-conjugated catalase(PEG-catalase) or N-acetyl cysteine. A method for inducing senescence comprises a step of treating the umbilical cord blood-derived mesenchymal stem cells by sub-lethal oxidative stress. The oxidative stress includes hydrogen peroxide, ionization radiation, or UV ray.
