PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve inserting property of an insertion section by controlling the driving of a rotary cylinder by means of a detecting section installed, in addition to a torque sensor, on the detecting section for detecting a pressure of the insertion section in the insertion axis direction.
SOLUTION: A rotary self-propelled endoscope system has a motor encoder 59b for detecting rotary driving condition of the rotary cylinder 51, pressure sensors 60 and pressing sections 61 arranged on a body 10 of the insertion section for detecting pressure of the insertion section 6A in the direction of insertion axis, and a rotation control section 66. The rotation control section 66 has a torque determination section for comparing a detection result of the motor encoder 59b and a predetermined torque threshold and a pressure determination section for comparing a detection result of the pressure sensors 60 (a calculation result of an arithmetic section 66a via a pressurization amount detecting section 73) and a predetermined pressure threshold. The driving of a motor 59 is controlled on the basis of at least one of a torque determination result by the torque determination section and a pressure determination result by the pressure determination section.
