A microbicidal aqueous solution comprising (a) monochloramine and (b) at least one peracid is described. Components (a) and (b) can be present in an amount effective to control the growth of at least one microorganism, and the pH of the aqueous solution is from about 5 to about 12. A method of controlling microbial growth is also disclosed.
