A reperfusion catheter for controlled reperfusion in an occluded artery is disclosed. The reperfusion catheter comprises a tubular perfusion catheter (12) having a proximal end and a distal end and a lumen defined in between said proximal and distal ends. The catheter (12) has a dilatator which is sized and shaped to move telescopically in the lumen of said perfusion catheter. The tubular perfusion catheter has at least one perfusion port (16) which is formed in the shell of the tubular perfusion catheter (12) and which establishes fluid communication in between the proximal end and the lumen of the perfusion catheter. The at least one perfusion port (16) extends in the longitudinal direction of the perfusion catheter such that, in use, full or partial withdrawal of the dilatator out of the lumen of the perfusion catheter permits controlled flow of blood through said perfusion port (16) and out of the distal end of the tubular perfusion catheter (12).
