A cerebral catheter device (22) for draining fluid from a patient's brain is described. This device (22) can be used as part of a ventricular shunt system. The device (22) includes an elongated tube (24) that is inserted in the patient's brain in the vicinity of the desired target. Mounted on the elongated tube (24) is a head (26) having a passage (30) in fluid communication with the lumen of the elongated tube. On the outer surface of the head (26), a formation is provided for securing the head in a hole formed in the patient's skull. The head further comprises a first fluid connector portion (32) attachable to an associated drainage catheter device (34).
