The present invention relates to a method for coating catheter balloons, preferably textured catheter balloons and preferably valvuloplasty catheter balloons, with a therapeutic amount of an anti-infective agent and optionally a biological and biodegradable carrier substance and optionally further components. Moreover, the present invention relates to catheter balloons and preferably valvuloplasty catheter balloons coated with a therapeutic amount of an anti-infective agent and optionally a carrier substance obtainable according to the coating methods disclosed herein as well as the use of such coated catheter balloons for treatment of heart valve stenosis and release of the anti-infective agent or agents for prophylaxis of endocarditis especially endocarditis caused as a result of valvuloplasty. The coated catheter balloons can be used alone or in combination with a coated or uncoated valve replacement device on the catheter balloon before or after the coating with the therapeutically anti-infective agent and optionally carrier substance.
