An absorbent article having a main body having a longitudinal axis, a liquid-permeable topsheet, a liquid-impermeable backsheet and an absorbent core sandwiched between the topsheet and the backsheet is disclosed. The article has two wings, each extending outwardly from a crotch portion of the main body in opposite directions and asymmetrically with respect to the longitudinal axis. The wings have means for fastening the wings to a garment when folded over the main body. Furthermore, each wing has a first edge section and a second edge section, each extending generally alongfirst and second straight lines. The first line defines a first angle (α2) with respect to the longitudinal axis and the second line defines a second angle (α3) with respect to the longitudinal axis. The magnitude of the angles (α2, α3) is chosen so that α2<；α3.
