The present invention relates to a fluid management system (10) comprising an implantable device (20) comprising a housing (21) containing a positive displacement gear pump coupled to an electric motor (73) and a first controller (70) coupled to a first battery (74), a first transceiver (76), and a first inductive charging circuit (75); a charging and communication system (30) comprising a second controller (152) coupled to a second transceiver (155) and a second inductive charging circuit (156), the charging and communication system configured to wirelessly communicate with the implantable device via the first and second transceivers, and to wirelessly transfer energy from the second inductive circuit to the first inductive circuit to charge the first battery; and monitoring and control software (40, 180) configured to run on a computer, the monitoring and control software configured to communicate operational parameters to the implantable device via the charging and communication system to control operation of the motor and gear pump.
