The present invention relates to a novel use of a bamboo cane extract, and more specifically, to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating arteriosclerosis comprising a bamboo cane extract containing oligosaccharides. According to the present invention, the composition comprising a bamboo cane extract containing oligosaccharides has the effect of suppressing the proliferation and migration of vascular smooth muscle cells caused by a platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), and also suppresses the gene expression of cell adhesion proteins (ICAM-1 and VCAM-1) and the gene expression of inflammatory mediators (IL-6 and iNOS) by suppressing TNF-&alpha-induced NF-&kappaB activation.
