The invention relates to a material, and method of manufacture of the material, which can be applied to the hoof or frog of a horse to provide a protective effect of killing microbes which may be present already and/or limiting the tendency for the growth of microbes thereon. The material includes silver ions therein and the material includes wax and oil to allow the application of the material in an efficient manner whilst ensuring that the silver ions remain in a substantially uniform spacing throughout the material.Linvention concerne un matériau, et un procédé de fabrication du matériau, qui peut être appliqué sur le sabot ou la fourchette dun cheval pour fournir un effet de protection consistant à tuer les microbes qui peuvent être déjà présents et/ou à limiter la tendance à la croissance de microbes sur ceux-ci. Le matériau comprend des ions argent dans celui-ci et le matériau comprend de la cire et de lhuile pour permettre lapplication du matériau dune manière efficace tout en assurant que les ions argent restent dans un espacement sensiblement uniforme dans lensemble du matériau.
