An anatomical support apparatus with first and second supports secured to a shaft by respective connection members, the supports rotatable about the shaft, the apparatus also including a drive assembly coupled to the shaft, the drive assembly configured to be self-locking when the drive assembly does not receive an input drive. The drive assembly may comprise an irreversible worm gear or a bidirectional sprag clutch. There may be an actuator configured to provide the input drive to the drive assembly, and this actuator may be mechanically coupled to the drive assembly, such that manual operation of the actuator provides the input drive. The actuator may be a wheel or crank handle. The anatomical supports may be pivotally connected to their respective connection member. This apparatus is self-locking so that support apparatuses that hold cadavers, dissected body parts, and prosthetic bodies & organs remain locked in place no matter their orientation.
