PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new natural mixture of primary fatty acids of high molecular weight ranging from 24 to 38 carbon atoms.SOLUTION: This mixture of fatty acids is obtained by homogeneously saponifying sugar cane wax, extracting the fatty acid mixture from the saponified wax with an organic solvent, and thereafter acidifying the extract. The mixture of fatty acids has specific pharmacological properties which support its use as an active ingredient of pharmaceutical formulations used as hypocholesterolemic and against type II hypercholesterolemia, as antiplatelet, antithrombotic, and anti-ischemic.
