The present invention relates to a composition for preventing and treating female climacteric symptoms, comprising an extract of Sophora japonica L. as an effective component, and more specifically, to a pharmaceutical composition and a food composition for preventing or treating female climacteric symptoms, comprising, as an effective component, an extract of Sophora japonica L. containing genistein diglucoside, sophorabioside, and sophoricoside in a weight ratio of 1 : 2.5-3.5 : 3.5-4.5. The extract of Sophora japonica L. of the present invention, having a specific composition, is safe due to negligible cytotoxicity； and exhibits significant antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects compared to other solvent extracts, and thus may be beneficially used as a pharmaceutical composition and a food composition for preventing, alleviating, or treating female climacteric symptoms.본 발명은 괴각 추출물을 유효성분으로 함유하는 여성 갱년기 질환의 예방 및 치료용 조성물에 관한 것으로, 보다 상세하게는 제니스테인 디글루코시드, 소포라비오시드, 및 소포리코시드를 1 : 2.5~3.5 : 3.5~4.5의 중량비로 포함하는 괴각 추출물을 유효성분으로 포함하는 여성 갱년기 질환의 예방 또는 치료용 약학적 조성물 및 식품 조성물에 대한 것이다. 본 발명의 특정 성분비를 갖는 괴각 추출물은 세포 독성이 거의 없어 안전하고, 다른 용매 추출물과 비교하여 항산화 및 항염증 효과가 현저하므로, 여성 갱년기 질환의 예방, 개선 또는 치료용 약학적 조성물 및 식품 조성물로서 유용하게 사용될 수 있다.
