The invention provides a method for producing afertile transgenic Gossypium hirsutum plant comprising thesteps of: (a) establishing a regenerable callus culture from aGossypium hirsutum plant to be transformed wherein said callusculture is selected from the group consisting of embryogenic,hypocotyl-derived, and embryogenic, cotyledon-derived callusculture； (b) selecting a plant cell aggregate therefrom fortransformation； (c) transforming said plant cell aggregatewith DNA by whisker-mediated transformation； (d) identifyingtransformed cell lines therefrom； and (e) regenerating fertiletransgenic plants therefrom.
