A biopsy device holder (1010) includes a needle holder (1030), a distal holder (1020), and a proximal holder (1022). The needle holder (1030) includes an elongated housing extending between an open proximal end (1034) and a distal end (1036). The needle holder (1030) is adapted to releasably receive the biopsy device (10) through the open proximal end. The elongated housing includes a coupler (1039) configured to couple the needle holder (1030) to the biopsy device (10). The distal holder (1020) includes an opening (1021) configured to pivotably receive the distal end (1036) of the needle holder (1030). The proximal holder (1022) includes a longitudinal stop (1048) that engages with a portion of the needle holder (1030) to prevent the needle holder (1030) from proximal longitudinal movement. The longitudinal stop (1048) is configured to disengage the coupler of the needle holder (1030) from the biopsy device (10) when the biopsy device (10) is moved proximally in a longitudinal direction.
